We all wear jeans. They are a part of our daily lives. But making jeans is bad for the planet. It takes a lot of water. It also makes a lot of pollution. One pair of jeans uses over 3,000 liters of water. That is a lot!
A student named Nirvaan Somany saw this problem. He wanted to help. So, he started Project Jeans. He takes old jeans and turns them into sleeping bags. These bags go to people who need them. This helps both people and the planet.
Nirvaan’s idea is simple. People give him old jeans. He and his team cut the jeans into strips. Then, they sew them into warm sleeping bags. He hires women from a nearby area to do the sewing. This gives them jobs. It helps them earn money.
The project gets jeans from schools and homes. People also give money to help. Each sleeping bag costs 800 rupees. This covers the cost of making it. Nirvaan gives the bags to people who are homeless. He also sells them to people who want to give them away.
Many people die from cold weather. Nirvaan’s sleeping bags help keep people warm. He even sent bags to people who had an earthquake. His project has made over 1,250 sleeping bags. He used 8,000 old jeans.
Nirvaan wants to do more. He wants to help people all over the world. He wants to stop waste. He says, “Everyone must help the environment.” He wants people to buy fewer new clothes. He wants them to use old clothes again. His project shows that small actions can make a big change. He is helping people and the planet. He is turning old jeans into something useful. He is making the world a little bit better.
